The Rotary Club of Pottstown

The Rotary Club’s motto is “Service Above Self.” This motto can be seen in action in the various services and projects Rotary undertakes. Each year, the Rotary Foundation provides some $90 million for international scholarships, cultural exchanges, and humanitarian projects – both large and small – that improve the quality of life for millions of people. On a more local level, the Pottstown Rotary has a long history of service to its community. Rotarian Perspectives — Why I Joined Rotary

My name is Lisa Criniti, I’m a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Group in Limerick. I have been a Realtor for eight years and I absolutely love it. It really gives me great satisfaction, helping people achieve their goals, whether its downsizing or new home buyers.  I work mostly in the tri county area, but am open to exploring other areas.

The Rotary Family

As a Rotary member of any local club, we often are introduced to leaders of the community. In many cases, the introduction is a result of a business or social event. In other cases we meet just by chance. The Rotary sign is placed on many business establishments to promote the high ethical standards of their business.

“Why Rotary?”

Over the years I have been asked many times “Why Rotary and What is Rotary?” When I initially joined the Pottstown Rotary, I was simply filling a spot. The previous Club member who owned a security company had sold his business and they were looking for someone in the industry to join them. The Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace throughout the world.

Why Rotary?

Why Rotary? Pancakes: I was introduced to Rotary when I was 5-6 years old. My grandfather was a Rotarian and they regularly held the pancake breakfast at the local firehouse. This was one of my favorites — wake up early on a Saturday morning, eat pancakes, then play on the fire trucks and even slide down the fire pole.

I remember the first time I heard the word ‘Rotary.’ I was a teenager and one of our neighbors was a member of the Pottstown Rotary Club. I had no idea what Rotary was, but I can tell you that our neighbor’s son was always saying that his father was going to a Rotary event and would proclaim how great Pottstown Rotary was.  

Why I Joined Rotary

Rotary is a service club, but I joined Rotary for selfish reasons. Period.

In 2012, I moved to Pottstown and wanted to start my own law practice. My problem was, aside from my realtor, I didn’t know a single person in town. A friend suggested I join Rotary, saying it would be a great way to meet local businessmen and women.

Why I Joined Rotary

When we first opened our business in Pottstown, we really didn’t know anyone, and we certainly were not familiar with the area.  We reached out to Pottstown Rotary Club for guidance, knowing that the group would be a great source of seasoned professionals.  What a wonderful surprise to discover that Rotary is so much more! 

How exciting to belong to an organization that reaches out to be a part of so many wonderful causes, locally as well as nationally and internationally.

The Value of Connections

Everyone who strives to succeed at a career in business learns that networking is a critical factor to that success. For me, Rotary has been a fun and effective way to build strong relationships in the community that continue to benefit not only my business but also me personally. One of the wondrous things about Rotary and networking is that you never know where your connections may lead. Sometimes you feel called to a place.
